Survey finds teen drug use declining, smoking may be making a comeback

Hey, it's great to see how many of you have joined us in blogdom!

An new study through Monitoring the Future finds that teen drug use (10th and 12th graders surveyed) has declined for the fourth consecutive year. Tons of research data is included in the press release. Monitoring the Future looks like a website we should keep track of.

The news that caught my eye concerned teen smoking. It's been in decline since the mid-90s. But in 8th graders, which is the "bellweather" age group, the decline has halted--suggesting that smoking may see a comeback among teenagers.

That suggests to me that any anti-smoking programs should be focused on late elementary and junior high students. Perhaps we already are. Are we doing any current anti-smoking programs in schools? If so, what are they?
