New Report Card Rates States' Efforts to Reduce Childhood Obesity

Researchers at the University of Baltimore have created a report card to assess states' efforts to curb the problem of obesity among children. The report card considers eight different types of legislation, including nutrition standards for schools, physical education, obesity education in the curriculum, and health-insurance coverage for treatment of obesity. Children's rates of overweight and obesity have skyrocketed in recent years, increasing the risk of serious health problems, including diabetes and heart disease.
