New Position at Texas Education Agency

Texas Education Agency Creates High Level School Health Position

issues, the Texas Education Agency is creating a high-level position that will focus on these important areas. Jeffrey Kloster has been appointed to serve in the newly created position of Associate Commissioner for Health and Safety. He will focus on issues such as childhood obesity, homeland security and campus safety issues.

Overweight and Physical Activity Among Children Report A new Health Resources and Services Administration publication, "Overweight and Physical Activity Among Children: A Portrait of States and the Nation, 2005," reports on the prevalence of overweight and levels of physical activity among children and their families at the national and state levels using data from the 2005 National Survey of Children's Health. The report includes information for each state, easy-to-follow bar graphs, and breakdown analyses by ethnic and racial group. 2006 State by State Health Ranking

State-by-State Health Rankings The American Public Health Association (APHA) announced the release of a report ranking states according to the health of their citizens. The report is a yearly assessment of the relative healthiness of a nation, based upon analysis of comprehensive determining factors such as personal behaviors, the environment in which people live and work, the decisions made by public and elected officials and the quality of medical care delivered by health professionals. This year the report ranks Minnesota as the healthiest state in the nation for the fourth year in a row. Texas ranked 37 overall.
